With the exception of our full-time, paid Station Manager who oversees the day-to-day operations of the access center, the programming created at Lake Region TV is made possible by the many hours of time contributed by volunteers who live, work, or associated with a non-profit organization in the twelve communities we serve.
Our volunteers come from all walks of life and range in age from the early-teens to early-eighties. Some have had prior experience in camcorder usage, graphics design or television production. Most start from scratch! The basics of community access television production are quite simple and fun to learn as you go. Most people are able to set up and operate a video camera with good results with an evening or two of training. As time goes on and you work in various team positions on the more involved productions, you’ll become one of the “pros” learning editing and multi-camera techniques.
Not all of the work at LRTV involves being the talent in front of the camera or the operator behind it. We also need volunteers to:
- Run the audio board during live and taped programming
- Help with setup of equipment for field productions
- Act as technical director (camera switcher)
- Prepare titles and graphics before and during programs
- Cablecast (insert and cue tapes/DVDs for daily programming)
- Produce and/or host a issues oriented talk show
- Produce and/or host a showcase of local music
- Edit video tapes
- Prepare a monthly newsletter for our volunteers
- Help maintain the Field Production Truck and Studios
- Help keep this website updated
HERE’S HOW TO GET STARTED . . .
If you’re at all interested in becoming a Lake Region TV volunteer, we suggest you either:
- Contact the Lake Region TV Station Manager John Likshis by phone, e-mail or in person at the LRTV studios to discuss how to get started or to arrange for one-on-one training.
- Sign up for one of our scheduled training classes.
- Arrange for the presentation of “Introduction to Community Access Television” to your community organization or group. This 1 hour traveling program will show you what community access television is all about.
